The jump from a career in one industry to a different one is not easy. There is no manual or guidebook on entering a new field, much less starting your own company. But Joel from Palatine, Illinois made the leap from having no experience in house painting, to starting his own business.
As a former software salesman, Joel had no previous background or skills required for home painting or running a company. It was with Main Street that he learned the technical skills and procedures necessary to perform jobs and manage his operation.
One of the challenges new business owners face is balancing strategic operations like acquiring customers while simultaneously working the job. For Joel, however, Main Street trained him from the ground up in house painting and helped him establish efficient procedures to run his operation.
