I'm Danilo, CEO here at Main Street. I’m just a kid from Brooklyn. My mission is to help people start businesses.
I've connected with a lot of other entrepreneurs. A lot of people pursuing tech and “new idea” startups. Many did not succeed. And they went and got real jobs.
Many of the richest self made people I know who got started in sweaty and gritty service based businesses. Now they are run wealth management and real estate companies. They earning money by the tens of millions.
We’re building a platform that proves you don’t need a new idea and you don’t need to change the world to buck the 9-5 and design the life you want. You can be a millionaire and work less than people will jobs. You can out earn most attorneys for the rest of my life. You can work a lot more because you love building and the adventure of it.
I started my first business in college, selling autographs online. The company serviced over 10,000 customers with a team of 5 full time employees and over 30 part time employees.
In 2019, I started working as an Entrepreneur In Residence, at Prehype a venture capital studio in New York. My job was to figure out what business to start. During that time I reflected a lot on my childhood, growing up with my dad who runs a home service business.
It was watching his highs and lows with the business that sprung Main Street. I decided that the next generation of business owners shouldn’t have to worry about things like SEO or designing a good website.
I strongly believe that 97% of businesses fail because of three main reasons:
1. Some people are waiting for that “brilliant” idea but never find something they deem worthy enough to pursue.
2. Others pursue passion projects but find themselves bogged down by the “passion” component of the project.
3. You don’t need to change the world to have the life you want. From our years of entrepreneurial experience most entrepreneurs fail for one of a few reasons.
Why focus on the service industry? The demand is growing fast, the competition is weak and the customers and competition is already there to study.
You don’t need to change the world to have the life you want. Some people waiting for that “brilliant” idea but never find something they deem worthy enough to pursue. Others pursue passion projects but find themselves bogged down by the “passion” component of the project. And finally, the “change the world” thing - it’s simply unrealistic for 99% of people.
Take painting, for example. All you need to do is buy paint, find customers, and complete jobs. There’s no need to take a risky, long-term approach to building a billion-dollar business. Completing six home painting jobs per week is a million dollars in revenue a week.
As I continue to learn and grow with my businesses, read self help and business books, reflect on my past experiences and consume content from a lot of other smart people I’ll share it here with you. Reach out if I can help in any way!
Should you trust me?
I think you should take what I say as just another piece of the advice puzzle. Talk to a lot of smart people and pick and choose the advice that is right for you and apply it to your unique situation the best you can!
We are building a world where starting a business is easier than applying to a job. It’s time for the 62% of Americans who dream of owning their own business take the reigns on their careers.
